Our Commitment to Protecting Your Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. The Animal Protection Party will respect your privacy through the protection of any personal information that you provide to us. We take great care to keep both confidential and secure all personal information in our possession.
As a federal political party registered under the Canada Elections Act, the Animal Protection Party, including its candidates, are subject to extensive regulation under that Act, including in particular public disclosure requirements for contributions over $200.
What is “Personal Information”
“Personal Information” is information about an identifiable individual. It includes information such as name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, other contact information and financial information.
Collecting Personal Information
Elections Canada provides all political parties with a list of electors, including names and postal addresses.
If you received a mailing from us, it was because you:
(a) are a member or supporter;
(b) a recent donor or volunteer;
(c) have recently taken action with one of our online tools;
(d) have asked to be included in our mailings; or
(e) have an existing relationship with us.
We respect your time and the environment by controlling the frequency of our mailings.
We collect personal information from donors and members when they contribute to our Party. You may also choose to provide us with personal information on a voluntary basis, such as when registering for an event or signing a petition. We are required by law to keep records of donors for tax purposes.
If you submit your e-mail address and/or personal information through our website, you consent to being added to our e-mail list. You may unsubscribe from our e-mail list at any time using the “Remove my name” link provided in each email message or by contacting our office.
Usage of Personal Information
We use your personal information to communicate with you. As a political party, we believe it is important to communicate with our supporters and with Canadians on a regular basis.
As a national organization, Animal Protection Party personnel may contact you to notify you of an event or of a local candidate who is running in your area. If you do not wish to be contacted, please let us know.
Your financial information is used to process your contributions. We are required, under the Canada Elections Act, to provide Elections Canada with our donors’ names, addresses and contribution amounts.
We may also use the information we collect for internal research and analysis purposes.
Protecting your Personal Information
We maintain security systems to safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse, and from loss or unauthorized alteration.
Safeguards may include physical measures (such as locked doors or locked file cabinets), organizational measures (such as staff training, limited access and security clearances) and technological measures (such as passwords and anti-virus software for computer systems).
We will not share, rent or sell your personal information that you have chosen to provide us.
Accuracy of Personal Information
We keep your personal information as accurate as possible. If you wish to update your personal information, contact us by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or 416-462-9541.
