Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus

The Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus is a caucus where membership is secret, and which traffics in lies and misinformation, and which conspires with third parties that caucus members don’t want their constituents or fellow MPs to know about. This is because they serve the special interests of lobby groups which have special relationships with these MPs. These lobby groups are comprised of many animal use organizations (such as hunting, anglers, beef and dairy producers) that don’t want animal advocacy organizations to gain any footing in the fight to protect animals.

It was this caucus that conspired to kill Bill C-246, the Modernizing Animal Protections Act, a modest act to update Canada’s century-old anti-cruelty legislation. They were so scared that any improvements to animal protections in Canada would mean them losing profits from exploiting animals, that they fought vigorously to make sure the bill failed.
